JOOUST HOSTS 4TH DISABILITY DAY

The University held its 4th Disability day on the 27thand 28th March 2018 at the University Sports ground to a display of pomp and colour form the various groups and special schools that attended the event. The theme for this years’ event was, “Towards Inclusivity.”

The annual event is an appreciation of the special group of persons with various disabilities and focuses on the talents and abilities of the special groups of persons. The colorful event was officially opened by the Chief Guest, Hon. Dr. David Sankok who was accompanied by his colleague in parliament Hon. Tom Odege.

While opening the event, Hon. Sankok, thanked the University’s management for the gesture and consideration for organizing the annual event without fail in celebration of different special talents of persons with disabilities. He reiterated his commitment to always attend the JOOUST disability day and said that he was touched by the University’s commitment to serve persons with disabilities.

The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Stephen Agong’, in a speech delivered on his behalf by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Prof. Joseph Bosire said that the University was committed to Corporate Social Responsibility through such initiatives that opens its doors to community members, special schools and the public in celebration of the various abilities of persons living with disabilities.

The event was attended and sponsored by among others, National Council of persons with disabilities represented by Mr. James Ndwiga and Plan International. The yearly event is organized by the Disability Mainstreaming Committee of the University headed by Dr. Henry Onderi, the Director Kisii Campus through the Division of Research, Innovation and Outreach. Also in attendance was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research Innovation and Outreach, Prof. Benson Estambale, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Planning, Administration and Finance, Prof. Washington Olima, Sabatia eye clinic which conducted free eye screening and the County Director of Disability Services, Siaya County, Mr. Lawrence Ojijo.

The 2-day event saw a display of sports and talent demonstrations and various sensitization and awareness initiatives from the Schools which attended. In attendance was Maranda Special, St. OdaAluor, Kayieye ,Mundika, Sega Special ,Fr. Audree, Saradidi Special and Nicohauser Schools.
