THE 2ND COMPETITIVE GRANTS FOR POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH TRAINING

National Research Fund (NRF) is pleased to announce the 2nd National Research Call for Proposals for Postgraduate Research. The call is in line with NRF strategic response to the national goals articulated in Vision 2030 to develop a highly skilled, globally competitive human resource. NRF as established by Science Technology and Innovation Act No. 28 of
2013, is equally mandated to facilitate research for the advancement of Science, Technology and Innovation for National Development.

Support for postgraduate students is one of key strategic funding programmes NRF is contributing towards human capital development to generate adequate skilled human resource. It is envisaged this programme will significantly contribute in generating a critical mass of technical and skilled manpower, new knowledge and innovations that will culminate into effective interventions for socio-economic development.

Eligible postgraduate Kenyan students from both public and private universities are invited to apply for these grants. This programme supports only the research component for Masters or Doctoral degree programmes. Proposals submitted for consideration should have been defended and approved by the relevant postgraduate bodies of their respective Institutions for commencement of research work.

A successful doctoral project will be funded up to a maximum of Kenya Shillings two million (Ksh 2,000,000/=) for a period not exceeding three (3) years, while Masters project will be funded up to a maximum of five hundred thousand (Ksh 500,000/=) for a period of one (1) year.

Interested postgraduate students who wish to participate in this national competitive grant programme can download the application forms from the NRF website www.researchfund.go.ke.

The deadline for submission of proposals is on Wednesday, 17th February, 2018; 17:00hrs. All eligible submitted applications will be subjected to peer review process by external merit reviewers. The list of successful applicants will be posted in NRF website to notify the public by 30th June 2018. Successful projects will be funded under the budget allocation of 2018/2019 Financial Year, as from July, 2018.

Submission of applications in the official form must be in both hard and soft copies. Applications must have the title of the grant programme which is ‘COMPETITIVE

GRANTS FOR POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH TRAINING’.
