Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) is offering one PhD position for research on governance and grassroots financial innovations for inclusive economic growth in informal settlements of Kenyan cities. This is based on research funding received from Danida to undertake research onSocial Entrepreneurship and Grassroots Financial Innovations. The successfull candidate is expected to work together with researchers in the project to produce a rich study on the governance practices, impacts and diffusion of grassroots innovations, which are developing financial and monetary infrastructures for inclusive economic growth among low-income micro-entrepreneurs delivering critical services and goods in urban informal settlements. The project aims to develop theory at the intersection of social entrepreneurship, monetary theory and urban studies through qualitative and participatory methodologies.
The project activities will be informed by the existing innovative social entrepreneurship and financial practices in the informal settlements of Kenya’s three major cities (Mombasa, Nairobi and Kisumu).

In addressing this research thematic area, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) wishes to recuit one postdoctoral candidate for research on governance and grassroots financial innovations for inclusive economic growth in informal settlements of Kenyan cities.
The successful candidate is expected to be actively involved in field studies, collecting, analysing and interpreting data on social entrepreneurship and financial monetary innovations; and how these innovations can contribute to social and economic development wihin an urban informal settlement.
