APPLICATIONS FOR INTERNAL SMALL GRANTS FOR RESEARCH
Purpose: Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University (JOOUST) through the Division of Research, Innovation and Outreach (RIO) endeavors to inculcate a reputation of excellence and vibrant research culture in JOOUST as well as giving guidance to the University in the generation of new science and technological solutions that address the needs of the society. JOOUST recognizes the presence of high caliber as well as budding researchers, innovators and professionals available within the University. JOOUST acknowledges contributions from its staff in research and to this end, has provided the necessary environment and facilitation to enable staff conduct research and gain new knowledge in their respective disciplines.
Recognizing the substantial financing gap between estimated and actual funding for research, and being aware of the limited sources of funding for research in general for staff, the University through the Office of the DVC RIO has established a dedicated fund for research. The Office of the DVC RIOannounces a call for proposals for internal small grants for research to provide additional funds to existing projects or as seed funds for small research projects.
Criteria: This is an open call. Applications are invited from all disciplines.
Eligibility Criteria: All staff
Selection Criteria: The University’s Research Publication and Press Committee (RPPC) will review the proposals. Proposal evaluation is based upon quality, clarity, specificity and feasibility of research with emphasis on:
- Relevance and originality of the research idea
- Soundness of the project’s conceptual framework
- Internal validity, scientific rigor of proposed methods.
- Ethical considerations (for example human subjects approval, where necessary)
Range of Award: Up to a maximum of Kshs. 500,000
Budget Supported Activities: Grants will only be used for fieldwork and direct research related expenses.
Application Requirements: Interested staff should submit a proposal using dully filled forms available at CRIT Office and on the University website www.jooust.ac.ke. And attach a two-page Curriculum Vitae of the researcher containing details of applicant/s, including qualifications and past experience in research.
